TITLE:     PROBATION

PURPOSE

 

This policy establishes the organization, functions, responsibilities, rules and regulations for deputies of the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Probation Division.

 

DUTIES OF PROBATION OFFICERS:

Evaluates offender progress and recommends intensity of supervision based on observations from time of conviction through the period of adjustment after release from an institution.

Assists offenders in securing jobs, maintains contacts with business organizations and employment agencies, and arrange for employment interviews.

Counsels and refers offenders to specialized treatment services at guidance clinics, mental health clinics, and related organizations.

Records offender restitution payments, cost of supervision, court costs, as well as other related payments.

Maintains an awareness of offenders' daily activities and evaluates desirability to remain at liberty.

Represents the Department of Corrections in all parole hearings for inmates assigned to caseload. Appears as a witness at parole or probation revocation hearings.

Responsible for the case management of all assigned inmates. Serves as a team leader or member in all case reviews to determine the direction for each case. Serves as team chairman or member of all disciplinary due process hearings for inmates assigned to caseload.

Evaluates information from reports, interviews and correspondence and prepares case histories for recommendations for inmate classification and job assignment.

Performs related work as required.
