MAJOR SCOTT FONTENOT
Fontenot is a resident of Evangeline Parish and has 34 years of law enforcement experience. He has worked as a Military Police Officer in the United States Air Force while serving as Sergeant on active duty from 1986-1990, then he served as a patrolman at Ville Platte Police department from 1990-1992, and serving as a Wildlife Agent working his way through the ranks and retiring as Lieutenant from 1992-2020. Fontenot was the supervisor over four parishes (Evangeline, Allen, Jeff Davis and Beauregard). Currently serving as Chief Deputy with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff Office.
Major Fontenot attended the Military Police Academy in San Antonio Texas in 1986, he then attended the POST Law Enforcement Academy at University of Lafayette in 1990, the POST Law Enforcement Academy at Louisiana State University and the Wildlife Academy at State Police & Wildlife Headquarters.
Major Fontenot attended several specialized training courses throughout his 34 years including Standardized Field Sobriety, Intoxilyzer-9000 certification, Search and Rescue by water and land, Marijuana identification and ratification, Narcotic identification, Defensive tactics, Active Shooter, Pursuit Driving, Federal firearm training, Homeland Security etc.
Chief Deputy Fontenot looks forward to continuing to serve the people of Evangeline Parish and assisting Sheriff Charles Guillory. Part of his duties will be monitoring Investigations, Patrol, Communications, Traffic Division and the Parish Probation office. He has dedicated himself to serve and protect the people of Evangeline Parish. He will make an extra effort to work with all Agencies in the Parish as well as on the State level. We will use every resource available to protect the citizens and their property.
