TITLE:ASSIGNMENT OF DEPUTY INFLICTING

SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH

EFFECTIVE DATE:  February 15, 2017

                                                       

PURPOSE:

 

This policy establishes guidelines to be followed in the event serious injury or death in inflicted by a deputy.

 

POLICY:

 

When a death or serious injury occurs as a result of actions by a deputy, the deputy involved shall be placed on special duty assignment or administrative leave with pay. The appropriate course of action shall be based upon the best interest of the deputy, the Department and the community.

 

GUIDELINES AND REGULATIONS:

 

If a deputy is placed on administrative leave he shall remain available during the regular day shift duty hours and he shall be available for any of the following:

 

  1. Departmental investigation related to the incident.

 

  1. Counseling sessions as mandated by the Department.

 

  1. An informational debriefing.

 

  1. As directed by the Sheriff.

 

Deputies placed on special duty assignment or administrative leave shall not work any extra employment jobs.

 

SUPERVISORY/ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF:

 

The Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office administrative staff will operate a regular shift from 0800 to 1600 hours Monday through Friday, and subject to call as needed.
