TITLE:     INITIAL CLASSIFICATION PROCESS

EFFECTIVE DATE:  February 15, 2017

 

 POLICY:

 

The offender classification plan shall provide for the

screening of all offenders at the time of admission for the purpose of determining proper level of custody and housing location.

 

RULES:

 

  1. Verifiable and documented data about offenders shall be used in the decision making process to separate offenders into groups that reduce the probability of assault and disruptive behavior.

 

  1. The facility shall ensure that offenders are classified without regard to race, color, creed, or national origin.

 

  1. During initial classification, the following criteria shall be used to determine the proper level of security for offenders

 

  1. Results of the classification assessment;
  2. Results of the classification interview;
  3. Staff notations on the offender's Behavioral Sheet;
  4. Personal observations;
  5. Information from other sources outside the facility;
  6. Housing location assigned during previous incarcerations.
