TITLE:     CLASSIFICATION

EFFECTIVE DATE:  February 15, 2017

 

POLICY: The facility shall screen all offenders at the time of admission and during their incarceration, for the purpose of determining offender level of security and housing location.

 

 The classification plan shall be reviewed annually and updated as necessary.

 

DEFINITIONS:

 

 

 Classification Assessment: A system used by the Classification Officer to determine the most appropriate level of security needed for offenders housed within the facility.

 

Classification interview: An interview used by the Classification Officer to help determine the most appropriate level of security needed for offenders housed within the facility.

 

  1. Adult Offenders: Those inmates 18 years of age or older.

 

  1. Youthful Offenders: Those individuals within the facility that are under the age of 18.

 

  1. Youthful Offender Certified as an Adult: An individual between the ages of 14 and 18 who has been referred by juvenile court to the jurisdiction of adult court for prosecution as an adult pursuant to court order.

 

  1. Criminal Sophistication: An offender's degree of criminal sophistication is based on verified information regarding the following:

 

  1. Past/present behavior while incarcerated.
  2. Prior escape/attempted escape history.
  3. Current offense.
  4. Prior and present criminal arrests.
