TITLE:     VACATION LEAVE POLICY

EFFECTIVE DATE:  February 15, 2017

 

Provide uniform policy and standards relating accumulation and use of vacation time within the Sheriff Department.

 

  1. ELIGIBILITY:

 

Eligibility is as follows:

 

  1. HOW VACATION ELIGIBILITY IS DETERMINED:

 

  1. For the first (1st) complete year of service, you will be credited with four (4) hours of vacation leave per month. Accrued at (1.85) hours per every two week pay period.

 

  1. After completing two (2) years of service, you will be credited with eight (8) hours vacation leave per month. Accrued at (3.70) hours per every two week pay period

 

  1. Vacation time will rollover years with a maximum of two hundred (200) accrued hours. After the accrued balance reaches two hundred (200) hours vacation time will no longer accrue.

 

 

  1. VACATION REQUESTS:

 

  1. Because of the emergency nature of the service provided minimum staffing levels are absolutely necessary. Therefore, vacation time will be granted at the discretion of the Communications Supervisor based on established minimum staffing levels and seniority.

 

  1. Vacation requests must be presented in writing to the proper section manager. The request must be made far enough in advance (at least three (3) days) so that replacements can be made or the request will not be approved.

 

  1. Administrative employees, those schedule from 8:00AM to 4:00PM are not allowed to take off on Mondays or Fridays without prior approval from the Sheriff.

 

  1. NON-ALLOWED DAYS:

 

  1. There will be no vacation requests granted from December 20 through January 6 except under emergency circumstances.

 

  1. There will be no vacation requests granted during the following:
  2. The Friday preceding Mardi Gras through the day following Mardi Gras

 

  1. No two (2) individuals will be scheduled for vacation leave at any one time.

In regards to: All Rules, Regulations, Policy & Procedures and Special Orders are at the discretion of the Sheriff based on departmental need and the severity of the infraction.
