TITLE: JOB INJURY
EFFECTIVE DATE: February 15, 2017
PURPOSE:
This policy establishes procedures for the handling of on-the-job injuries.
POLICY:
Any employee of the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Department, who is injured while in the performance of their duty, shall immediately report such injury(s) to their immediate supervisor and all appropriate reports shall be completed.
PROCEDURES:
If any employee is injured on the job, has physical contact with an individual he reasonably believes to have a highly contagious disease, or has any contact with hazardous or dangerous substance, the following procedure shall be followed:
- The employee shall notify his immediate supervisor.
- The injured employee supervisor shall conduct an assessment as to whether
emergency treatment is necessary.
- If emergency treatment is necessary, the employee shall be immediately
transported to the hospital.
- If the injury is not of an emergency nature, the injured deputy shall be referred
to a Departmental approval doctor during normal business hours.
- The supervisor will ensure that all Department paperwork has been completed and
forwarded to the Administrative Supervisor.
NOTIFICATIONS:
Each Unit or Section Supervisor shall be responsible for notifying their immediate supervisor of any injuries occurring to employees within their command.
Each Unit or Section Supervisor shall use discretion as to the timely notification of their immediate supervisor. If the injury requires immediate treatment, notification should be treated the same. If the injury does not require immediate attention and will be referred a Departmental approved doctor during normal business hours, notification should be made within twenty four (24) hours.
Any injury requiring emergency treatment shall be reported the Sheriff immediately.
NOTE: THE EVANGELINE PARISH SHERIFF'S OFFICE DOES NOT PROVIDED WORKER'S COMPENSATION.
In regards to: All Rules, Regulations, Policy & Procedures and Special Orders are at the discretion of the Sheriff based on departmental need and the severity of the infraction.
