Shuff Road Homeowner Stops Burglary in Progress, 2 Suspects Apprehended

Sheriff Eddie Soileau, of the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office has released the following:

On February 24, 2020, Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office were called out to the 200 Block of Shuff Road for a Burglary in progress.

Upon arrival Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office learned that multiple agencies were in a foot pursuit with 2 unidentified black male subjects. The subjects had attempted to enter a home on Shuff Road through the window without the knowledge of the home owner being present inside. The subjects took off on foot causing a chase in and near the area of the Wyble Subdivision.

The pursuit ended peacefully and safely with the apprehension of two 16-year-old male juveniles. The juveniles were detained, arrested, and taken into custody. The juveniles were charged and booked at the Evangeline Parish Jail prior to being released back into their parent's custody.

During the foot pursuit the subjects left behind a 2003 black 4 door Chevrolet Impala which was later confiscated and towed as evidence for processing. A Search Warrant was authored and approved by 13th Judicial Judge Chuck West. Upon completion of the vehicle search several stolen items were located inside the vehicle from recent burglaries that occurred within the city limits of Ville Platte as well as in the Parish. The items were confiscated and returned back to the rightful owners.

The two juveniles were charged with the following: Criminal Trespassing, Attempted Burglary, Possession of Stolen Items, Resisting an Officer, and Possession of Tobacco Products under the age of 21.

Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office would like to thank the following agencies for ther assistance in the apprehension of the juveniles: Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries, Ville Platte Police Department, and the Ville Platte City Marshals.
