Rise in Vehicle Thefts for Evangeline Parish
Sheriff Eddie Soileau, of the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office has released the following:
EVANGELINE PARISH AREA- On Wednesday, June 12, 2019 Detective Tommy Gallow received information of a stolen vehicle being recovered in the city limits of Ville Platte. The vehicle was towed and awaiting further processing and investigation. A 2008 Dodge Ram pickup was stolen from the 200 blk of Benny St. On Tuesday, June 4, 2019 there was also a 2018 Nissan Rouge stolen at the same time from the same residence, that has not yet been recovered.
Late Sunday morning, June 16, 2019 between the hours of 11am- 2pm Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office received two calls in reference to vehicles being stolen in the Reddell area. A 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee was reported from the 1200 blk of Lahaye Rd and a 2014 GMC Sierra from the 1200 blk of Huey Rd.
On Monday, June 17, 2019 Ville Platte Police Department along with Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office responded to the local McDonald's on Tate Cove Rd in reference to a vehicle fitting the description of the GMC Sierra. Upon Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office arrival, Ville Platte Police Department had confirmed that the vehicle was the stolen vehicle and had one black male subject detained. Two unidentified black male subjects fled on foot as Ville Platte Police Department arrived. The detained subject was taken back to Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office for questioning. The subject was released pending further investigations. Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office is in search of Tron Jack Jr. and Jalen Thomas for the Theft of the Motor Vehicle. The vehicle was immediately processed and returned to the owner.
Early Tuesday morning June 18, 2019 Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office dispatch was notified that the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee was located and abandoned in Houston, Texas. No further information at the time, investigation is ongoing.
