PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
PERMITLESS CONCEALED WEAPONS LAW
EFFECTIVE JULY 04, 2024
Evangeline Parish is a rural parish where many of us are raised to shoot guns and of course, go hunting. Many have been shooting guns at an early age and gun safety was always impressed upon our youth.
With that said, the Permitless Concealed Weapons law was passed by the Louisiana Legislature and signed into law by Governor Jeff Landry to take effect ironically on July 04, 2024, Independence Day. It is only lawful to carry concealed weapons without a permit after this date if a person is of legal age, 18 or older and not otherwise prohibited . Example, some felony or misdemeanor convictions may disqualify one from owning or possessing firearms.
There are some restrictions that apply where to carry. Any and all weapons cannot be carried open or concealed in schools, churches, casinos, sporting events, any law enforcement or government building, privately owned property/businesses or to any large crowds/gatherings.
It is highly suggested that anyone who wishes to carry a weapon openly or concealed take a gun course on the use and safety of operating your weapon. Training is very paramount and utmost important. I encourage everyone to practice gun safety in both the home and in the public. There are on occasions where someone in the home is accidently shot. Place all firearms in a locked safe, trigger locked and unloaded. Practice gun safety at all times. Don't become a statistic of a gun accident.
Some gun safety tips are:
Treat all guns as if they are loaded, never put your finger on the trigger until you are ready to fire, point the muzzle in a safe direction, and be sure of your target and surroundings.
Always remember that you will be held accountable and responsible for every shot fired. Please be safe and respect the use of firearms and others. Lets go home safely.
