~ NARCOTICS PRESS RELEASE JUNE 13TH AND 15TH

On June 13,2024 Narcotic Officer's with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office Deputies while patrolling in the Wyble Subdivision, observed a vehicle bearing the Louisiana License Plate Z743296 swerve out of their designated lane of travel on Berdine Street and conduct a right turn onto Bell Street.  Narcotic Officers activated the emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop.  The vehicle came to a stop at the intersection of Bell and Sandy Street.   Contact was made with driver Identified as Cory James Leday. Upon making contact with C. Leday he became very argumentized and non-compliant. C. Leday was advised of the reasoning of the stop and instructed to provide his License, Vehicle Registration and Proof of Insurance. A strong odor of Marijuana was observed emitting from the vehicle. C. Leday was asked if he possessed any narcotics within the vehicle, in which he surrendered a clear plastic container from his center consul area containing Marijuana weighing 7.6 grams. C. Leday was instructed to step out of the vehicle and make his way to the rear of the vehicle. A search of C. Leday's pocket contents was conducted in which he was clear of all contraband.  A search of vehicle was conducted. Located in a cup in the center consul was several smoked hand-rolled cigars containing Marijuana weighing 2.3 grams. Located on the front passenger seat a black electric with glass base containing Marijuana Residue. Located in the center consul area was a digital scale.

C Leday was released on citation for his traffic related offenses along with a Criminal Citation for Possession of Schedule I Marijuana under 14 grams.  

 

On June 15, 2024, Narcotic Officers with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office, while conducting criminal patrol observed the driver of a vehicle bearing Louisiana License plate 919GYM, not wearing her seat belt.   Agents activated the emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop.   Agents made contact with the driver who was identified as Harley Doucet who was informed of the reason for the traffic stop. While speaking with Doucet, the smell of Marijuana was emitting from the vehicle and agents asked if she had any illegal narcotics in the vehicle and also informed her the odor of Marijuana.  Doucet stated that she had a "Blunt" (hand rolled cigar containing marijuana) in her purse.  Doucet was ordered to exit the vehicle and when asked for permission to remove the marijuana from her purse she granted permission. The hand rolled cigar containing .74 grams of Marijuana was removed and agents continued to search the vehicle in the ashtray multiple smoked hand rolled cigars containing a total of 1.69 grams of Marijuana was located and in a small pink glass jar with Marijuana leaves on it located on the front passenger seat totaling .36 grams of marijuana was located. Also, in the vehicle an open High Moon Hard Seltzer "alcohol" that was almost completely full was located. Doucet advised that she works at a bar and was on her way there and had just opened the can. Doucet was issued a Citation for No Seatbelt, Open Container, and Possession of Schedule I under 14 grams and released.
