~NARCOTIC PRESS RELEASE~ TWEEDEL

Date Posted: 08/07/2024

On July 25, 2024, Narcotic Agents with the Evangeline Parish Sherriff's Office, while conducting Criminal Patrol observed a vehicle traveling North on Hwy 167 cross over the solid white fog line to drive along the shoulder.  The agent also observed the vehicle pass the center yellow median line and drive left of the center line. Agents activated the emergency lights to affect a traffic stop.  Upon stopping the car, the agent made contact with the driver, which was a 41-year-old white female identified as Heather Jo Tweedel of Ville Platte.   Tweedel was advised of the reasoning for the stop and instructed to provide her License, Vehicle Registration, and Insurance.   During this time, agents observed Tweedel's body language being nervous and spiritic cognitive reasoning in nature as she attempted to plead with officers due to her trying to get her life together and her father not knowing the status of her license.  Through dispatch, the agent became aware of Tweedel maintaining a Suspended Driver's License. Dispatch was advised of H. Tweedel's license number and advised she had an expired and Suspended License Status.   Because of Tweedel's continued spiritic behavior, she was instructed to step out of the vehicle.   Agents deployed their canine to conduct a free air sniff around the outside of the car in which the canine alerted to the odor of narcotics on the driver's side door.   A search of the vehicle was conducted and the agent located within the purse of Tweedel, a metal container labeled "early bird" filled with 15 round blue pills identified as Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine 10mg.   Tweedel was advised of her Miranda Rights which she stated she understood.
Heather Tweedel was arrested and charged with (1) 40:967A Possession with intent to distribute Schedule II Narcotics.  Tweedel also maintained an Active Misdemeanor Warrant.  Tweedel also received a traffic citation for her traffic-related offenses.  Tweedel was transported to Evangeline Parish Jail for further booking and Processing for the charges of 40:967A Possession with the intent to distribute Schedule II Narcotics.
