~NARCOTIC PRESS RELEASE~ KERNER AND FONTENOT

On July 30, 2024, Narcotic Agents with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office, while conducting criminal patrol within the city limits of Mamou, La., agents observed a vehicle traveling North on Railroad Ave and Hackberry Street conduct a right turn at the intersection without using a turn signal.  Agents initiated the emergency lights to affect a traffic stop, with the vehicle stopped at the intersection of   Hackberry Street and East Street.
Agents made contact with the driver, a white female identified as Robin Kerner 45 of Eunice, and a passenger, a white female identified as Jennifer Fontenot 27 of Mamou.   The driver, Kerner was advised of the reasoning of the traffic stop.  Agents became aware of Kerner maintaining a suspended driver's license and Kerner also having a firearm within the vehicle.   Due to the firearm in the vehicle, both Kerner and the passenger Fontenot were instructed to step out of the vehicle and make their way to the rear of the vehicle.   Agents, for officer safety, retrieved the firearm, Sig Sauer P365 .380ACP (SN 66F917704) from the vehicle and secured the firearm.   During a field interview, agents became aware of the passenger, Fontenot, maintaining an Active Warrant for the Mamou Police Department.
R. Kerner advised she just picked up J. Fontenot and that she took her to the address of 412 Railroad Ave to get some of her belongings. R. Kerner advised that the small amount of makeup items located in the front floorboard were the items that J. Fontenot brought into her vehicle. R. Kerner advised that a search of her passenger area could be administered. Upon searching the passenger area of the vehicle no finding was located.  Through consent, the vehicle was searched with the following located.   11 opened empty packages of Suboxone (Buprenorphine and Naloxone) Sublingual Film 8mg/2mg and 7 unopened packages of Suboxone (Buprenorphine and Naloxone) Sublingual Film 8mg/2mg, and 3 opened packages of Suboxone (Buprenorphine and Naloxone) Sublingual Film 8mg/2mg.  Kerner stated that she held a prescription for Suboxone but did not have it on hand at the time.  Also located in a brown zipper bag large compartment in the rear passenger compartment of the vehicle was 4 Meth Pipes.  Located in a brown zipper bag large compartment was a green-tinted baggie containing Methamphetamine weighing 0.84 grams, also in a brown zipper bag large compartment was a digital scale, in a green-tinted baggie containing methamphetamine weighing 3.53 grams, as well as a green-tinted plastic baggie containing a Methamphetamine Mixture weighing 0.79 grams and another unknown substance weighing 1.24 grams.
Fontenot was released to the Mamou Police Department via warrant.
Robin Kerner was arrested and charged with (1)  Count of 40:967 Possession with the intent to distribute Schedule II Narcotics (Methamphetamine)  (1) Count of 40:968 Possession with intent to distribute Schedule III Narcotics (Suboxone),  and (1) Count of 14:95E Possession of a firearm in the presence of a Controlled dangerous substance.
