NARCOTIC PRESS RELEASE ~ JOSEPH JOHNSON

On March 12, 2025, Narcotic Agents with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office, while conducting criminal patrol observed a red pickup truck with Louisiana license plate Z743768 conduct a left turn from Mulberry Street onto 8Th Street and not maintain its proper lane, driving left of center.  Agents initiated a traffic stop on 8th and Chestnut. 

Contact was then made with the driver, who was a 42-year-old white male, identified as Joseph Johnson, and the passenger identified as Carl Smith III. The driver was advised of the reason for the traffic stop.  During the contact with Johnson, agents detected an overwhelming smell of marijuana emitting from the vehicle.   Upon the driver and passenger's removal from the vehicle and a search by agents, located in a cigarette pack taken out of J Johnson's pocket was a plastic baggie of 0.38 grams of Methamphetamine and two hand-rolled smoked cigarettes containing 0.33 grams of Marijuana. 

Johnson was arrested and charged with, 1 count of Possession of 40:967 Methamphetamines.
