~NARCOTIC PRESS RELEASE~ ERIC BEVERLY
On July 9, 2024, agents observed a vehicle traveling on Chataignier Road traveling 64 Mph in an area zoned for 55 Mph. Agents activated the emergency lights and sirens to affect a traffic stop. The vehicle stopped on Chataignier Road and Rozas. Upon making contact with the driver who was identified as Eric Beverly agents could smell a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. Beverly was advised of the reason for the stop and instructed to provide his license, vehicle registration, and insurance paperwork. Beverly had a Louisiana License with a suspended status. Agents asked Beverly if he possessed any Marijuana in the vehicle, and he advised he was just smoking within the car before being stopped. Agents When asked if any weapons were within the vehicle, Beverly advised he had an AR 15 on his passenger seat. Agents observed the AR pistol in plain sing on the passenger floorboard. Beverly was instructed to step out of the vehicle and step to the rear of the vehicle. Due to the firearm being within the vehicle nearby of the driver, the loaded firearm was retrieved for officer safety and secured. Beverly was advised of his Miranda Rights and placed in restraints for officer safety. A search of the vehicle was conducted and agents located in the center console area, a plastic sandwich bag containing loose Marijuana weighing 0.13 grams. Located in an ashtray in the center console was a hand-rolled smoked cigar containing 0.87 grams of Marijuana. Agents were advised through dispatch of the vehicle insurance being unconfirmed.
Eric Beverly received a citation for his traffic-related offenses, and a citation for Possession of Schedule I Marijuana under 14 grams. The vehicle was towed by Car Care Towing Service for no insurance. Beverly and the firearm were released to a valid license holder who picked him up from the scene.
