NARCOTIC PRESS RELEASE ~ BOBBY MERRELL
On February 24, 2025, Agents with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit while conducting criminal patrol on St. Landry observed a Chevrolet Truck black in color failed to utilize turn signals while negotiating a left turn. Agents initiated the emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop. Agents contacted the driver, a 47-year-old white male, identified as Bobby Ray Merrell. During a verbal consent to search the vehicle agents located a handgun in his possession. During a pat search for officer safety, agents located a glass smoking pipe in his right coat pocket. "Merrell stated the pipe was his". Also, during the search, a black cloth zip-up container was located at the driver's side door. Within the container was an electronic scale, small empty clear baggies, and a "Glucocard" bottle, inside of this bottle a baggie with .65 grams of suspected Methamphetamines was discovered.
Bobby Merrell was arrested and charged with:
(1) 1 Count of 40:967C Possession of a Schedule II (Methamphetamine)
(2) 1 Count of 14:95E Illegal Carry of a Weapon: Crime or CDS
(3) 1 Count of 14.95.1 Possession of a Firearm or Carrying Concealed Weapon by a Person Convicted of Certain Felonies.
