I-49 TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO NARCOTICS SEIZURE

On 11/30/2024 while conducting traffic enforcement duties Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office deputies assigned to Traffic Enforcement on Interstate 49 initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for traffic violations.  Upon making contact with the driver the deputy observed an overwhelming odor commonly associated with Marijuana emitting from the interior of the vehicle.   Upon observing this the deputy then began a roadside interview with the driver which resulted in the driver forfeiting a small amount of marijuana from the interior of the vehicle.   Upon deputies continuing their investigation a large amount of Marijuana, Prescription pills, MDMA (Ecstasy), two handguns, and 4122.00 dollars in US currency was seized from the vehicle. The driver was arrested and transported to the Evangeline Parish Jail where he was booked without incident.
