EVANGELINE PARISH SHERIFF'S POSSE MEMBER SAYS THANKS TO LOCAL FESTIVAL

Date Posted: 12/09/2024

ON BEHALF OF THE EVANGELINE PARISH SHERIFF'S OFFICE AND THE EVANGELINE PARISH SHERIFF POSSE. I WANT TO THANK MY HOMETOWN AND THE LOUISIANA SWINE FESTIVAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PARADE.

TO MY KNOWLEDGE, THE SWINE FESTIVAL IS THE ONLY PARADE IN THE PARISH THAT GRACIOUSLY PROVIDED US WITH A PLATFORM TO SHOW WE ARE STILL IN OPERATION. THE POSSE AS IT STANDS TODAY WAS BEGUN BY SHERIFF BRUCE SOILEAU IN 1960. I DO RECALL IN MY YOUNGER YEARS, SHERIFF ELIN PITRE LEADING HIS POSSE ON HORSEBACK ALONG WITH THE ACADIA PARISH POSSE RIDING IN THE PARADE.

THIS YEAR WE WERE BOTH FORTUNATE AND PROUD TO HAVE SHERIFF CHARLES R. GUILLORY LEAD HIS POSSE ON HORSEBACK. OUR POSSE IS STILL AT THE CALL OF THE SHERIFF FOR FESTIVALS, SECURITY, AS WELL AS FOOTBALL GAMES.

WE HAVE BEEN INVOLVED WITH AREA SEARCH AND RESCUE, ESCAPES, CADAVERS, AND MISSING PERSON SEARCHES. WE ARE GEARING UP TO PROVIDE OTHER FORMS OF ASSISTANCE TO OUR PARISH, WHETHER ON HORSEBACK, FOUR-WHEELERS, SIDE-BY-SIDE, TRACTORS, BOATS, ETC. THE POSSE MEETS ONCE A MONTH AND ACCEPTS NEW MEMBERS.

I HUMBLY SAY, THANK YOU TO THE PEOPLE OF BASILE AND THE LOUISIANA SWINE FESTIVAL ASSOCIATION MEMBERS FOR GIVING THE EVANGELINE PARISH SHERIFF'S  POSSE A PLATFORM TO BE SEEN. ALSO, TO REMIND EVERYONE THAT WE ARE HERE TO SERVE AND PROTECT AT THE PLEASURE OF OUR SHERIFF, CHARLES R. GUILLORY.
