EVANGELINE PARISH SHERIFF'S OFFICE CONTINUES TO RID THE STREETS OF DRUGS
Sheriff Charles R. Guillory, of the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office releases the following:
Early Wednesday morning, October 21, 2020 at approximately 1:33 a.m., Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office K9 Team was in full force yet again conducting Criminal Patrol. A vehicle with expired temporary tags dated May 2020 was travelling north on N. Soileau towards W. LaSalle Street when the Deputy observes it and conducts a traffic stop. The vehicle was identified as a 2007 4 door blue Chrysler C30 bearing a temporary tag number of 66448G4. The driver was identified as Ellis Wilson and his passenger was identified as Ricky Thomas.
During the stop the Deputy learned the vehicle was uninsured. EPSO K9 (Diego) conducted an open-air sniff around the vehicle, and returned two (2) positive alerts to his handler leading to a probable cause search of the vehicle. Once vehicle search was completed small clear plastic bags containing a white powdery substance believed to be Cocaine was located, confiscated and stored as Evidence at the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office.
Upon completion of the traffic stop the Deputy had the vehicle impounded and held for no insurance. The driver Ellis Wilson was arrested and booked into the Evangeline Parish Jail on the charges of Possession of Schedule II CDS (Cocaine), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, No Insurance, Failure to Register, and Expired Temp Tag. Awaiting bond to be set by 13th Judicial District Judge Chuck West.
