COTTON GIN LOOP ATV RECOVERY LEADS TO AN ARREST
Sheriff Eddie Soileau, of the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office has released the following:
On Wednesday, October 16, 2019 while actively investigating ATV/4-Wheeler thefts, Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office Detective Tyla Godeaux received valuable information from a concerned citizen in reference to ATV riding in the neighborhood. The information led Detective Godeaux to the area of Cotton Gin Loop. While in the area Detective Godeaux observed an ATV fitting the description of a reported stolen ATV. A Search Warrant was immediately authored for the residence of 125 Cotton Gin Loop.
The Search Warrant returned one stolen ATV from Johnson road as well as 4 tires and rims taken from another ATV stolen from the 200 block of White Dove Road
While Investigators and Patrolman were executing the Search Warrant an occupant of the residence identified as Christopher Mayeaux returned to the area but quickly fled the scene which led to a vehicle pursuit followed by a foot pursuit. Mayeaux was chased down and apprehended in a local field in which he surrendered and was arrested without further incident.
Authorities say 31-year-old Christopher Mayeaux of Ville Platte, LA, was charged with 1 count of Possession of Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance (Methamphetamine) and 1 count of Resisting an Officer by Flight. He has since posted bail. Mayeaux posted bail on a bond set by13th Judicial Judge Chuck West for $27,500.00.
The recovered ATV, Rims and Tires was returned to the rightful owners.
Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office would like to thank the Public for their assistance with the recovery of the ATVs. This case is still under investigation at this time
