Community Awareness for Under Age Drinking
Community Awareness for Under Age Drinking
Recently the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Department teamed up with the Krewe de Evangeline Coalition to help prevent the progression of underage drinking.
The Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Department worked an Under Age Drinking Detail within Evangeline Parish in an effort to help reduce the number of those under the legal age that are consuming alcoholic beverages. During their patrol the Sheriff's Deputies did make contact with several individuals under the legal age that were in possession of alcoholic beverages. These beverages were destroyed and their parents were contacted, taking custody of their juvenile children.
Statistics show that youths that drink are more likely to be victims of violent crime, to be in alcohol related traffic crashes and to have serious school related problems. Even though Parents have more influence on their children's values and decision about consuming alcohol, others should make every effort possible in reducing the number of youths that use alcohol. It appears that more young people are using alcohol than they are smoking or using illegal drugs. We need to continue to educate these kids in an effort to make them aware of the possible dangers they may be facing.
