ARREST BRIEFING
On September 14, 2024, the Ville Platte Police Department was conducting an investigation in reference to a homicide that occurred on Reed St. inside the city limits of Ville Platte where a female victim was fatally wounded by gunfire. A second victim was also hit by gunfire and survived his injuries.
During Ville Platte Police Departments' investigation, several suspects were identified. One suspect being Malik Omar Charles B/M DOB 09/09/1999. Detectives with the Ville Platte Police Department were able to secure an arrest warrant for Charles charging him with one count of second-degree murder and one count of attempted second degree murder. Charls has been evading law enforcement since the warrant was issued.
On October 10, 2024, the Evangeline Parish Criminal Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division, and the Uniform Patrol Division assisted the Ville Platte Police Department by locating Charls inside of a residence in the 100 Blk. of E. Lasalle St. inside the city Limits of Ville Platte. Charles was located at the residence and arrested without incident. His total bond is set at $3,750,000.00. This investigation is still ongoing.
