ANGIE LANE FUGITIVE CAPTURED
Sheriff Charles R. Guillory, of the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office, releases the following:
VILLE PLATTE, LA - The Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office would like to thank the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office for the captured of wanted fugitive Rodney Van Bernard. Bernard faces the charge of Aggravated Second-Degree Battery with a Firearm. His bond was set by 13th Judicial District Judge Gary Ortego in the amount of $75,000.00. He has since been transported and booked into the Evangeline Parish Jail on the charge listed above.

On Wednesday, March 31, 2021, Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office was called out to the 1000 block of Angie Lane for a Shooting. The responding Deputy was flagged down by a driver who was transporting the wounded victim to a nearby hospital. Acadian Ambulance responded and transported the victim to Rapides Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries which were not considered life-threatening.
Investigators learned that a verbal altercation occurred between the residents of the home, and led to the victim being shot in his lower left leg. The shooter has been identified as Rodney Van Bernard. He was the driver of the vehicle initially transporting the victim for medical treatment. He has since absconded and has not been seen since.
Bernard is travelling in 1999 two door maroon Chevrolet Monte Carlo bearing Texas License Plate MNP0324. He is known to frequent the areas of Marksville, Crowley, and Rayne.
